Zealand: Forestry and Economy.
New Zealand covers a total of 270,530 km2 land area. The
population of New Zealand in 2000 was 3.8 million or 14
people per square kilometer. The annual population
growth rate is around 1-2%; and nearly 90% of the
population lives in urban areas. The national GDP of New
Zealand in 2000 was US$ 50.0 billion and it grew 4% from
last year. The national gross net income on a per capita
base was US$ 13,080. The New Zealand economy relies
heavily on international trade with more than 40% of the
GDP is trade related. As for forests, about 30% of New
Zealand's land surface is forested.
